Description of Dance School

“To touch, to move, to inspire.  This is the gift of dance.”

Claire Young Dance Academy was founded in September 2011 and currently have approx 300 students.  We have an extremely talented and inspiring staff who have pushed and developed the skill and technique of all of our dancers whilst nurturing and supporting them all both mentally and physically, building their confidence and promoting their friendships.  All staff are fully qualified, DBS checked and first aid trained.

What we do:

We are very proud of the professional level of dance training that we provide to our students and the incredible opportunities we provide across the year:

CLASS VARIATION - We offer a wide variety of classes from the more classical genres such as ballet, tap and jazz, to more specialised classes in acro dance, contortion and cheer as well as classes in musical theatre, lyrical, commercial, street and breakdance.

DANCE SHOWS - Our annual dance show is usually held around Easter. This involves the dancers displaying routines that they have practiced during classes and performing in front of a large audience of up to 250 people per night over the course of four shows.    The production spans morning and afternoon performances which are recorded on DVD, and involves the dancers wearing full show costumes and makeup.  Dancers participate and perform in all genres of dance in all age groups from 3 years + and it is truly a fabulous night which showcases the talent, progress and performance of all of our dancers and to see just how happy they are on the stage doing what they love.

EXAMS - Every year we hold dancing examinations in ballet and tap which we work towards throughout the year.  They are held in October when a NCDTA registered examiner arrives and examines the dancers on their set steps, performance and technique.  All dancers ranging from 3 years+ can be examined providing they are ready to take their dance exams.  Certificates, medals and trophies are awarded a few weeks later for each dancer who has taken the exams.  The dancers will then move up to the next level.  We also offer the opportunity for our dancers to study their professional examinations when they are ready in order t be qualified teachers.  The volume off seniors we have that take these exams and pass with the highest marks sets us a part from other schools.

SHOWCASE - We hold a dance showcase each Christmas which is an opportunity for parents to watch their children and see their progress over the course of the year.  This is an open day for parents and is a small showcase to see who is ready for the competitions as well as giving younger children the opportunity to practice and get used to dancing on a stage in front of a small audience. Certificates of achievement are awarded to each dancer as well as trophies and medals for outstanding achievement, progress, determination and effort.  It is a huge celebration of success.

COMPETITIONS - Our competition team takes part in local dance competitions, in which dancers have competed in various styles ranging from ballet, tap, modern/jazz, lyrical, acro, musical theatre and street dance/commercial.  We also have separate cheer and street dance competition teams - all of which we perform outstandingly and really present the level of skill, technique and performance of our dancers.  To be a part of the competition team a child must be top of their class consistently in ballet, and jazz and have good flexibility.  Dancers are then offered the opportunity by Miss Claire upon discussion with the other staff members to take part in the competition based upon their performance throughout the year, in the dance showcase as well as their examination results.  It is a good opportunity for dancers to develop their stage presence and confidence as well as a good practice for the dance shows.  Our dancers then go on to compete in championships where they are dancing against the best dancers in the region.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES - CDA dancers have been offered the opportunity to perform annually in Northumbria University's end of year showcase alongside the college graduates which is an honour to be a part of.  In addition to this we perform at Morpeth festival, Morpeth fair day and charity performances where we can collaborate alongside industry professionals and other dance schools in a professional theatre.  Our dancers have also successfully auditioned for local pantomimes and theatre productions.

PROFESSIONAL WORKSHOPS - Across the course of the year our dancers are offered incredible opportunities to work alongside top industry professionals in a wide range of genres.  These are huge opportunities for our dancers where they can learn and grow and develop whilst understanding what it takes to be successful in the industry.
